What Kind Of Game Is This?

This is the hardest platformer (of those with good play control) in the history of Nintendo.

Do not question the bent kangaroo.

If It Is So Difficult, Why The Good Rating?

Because the play control is good. You have no idea what a psychological relief that is. It's amazing pressing a button and having the game respond accordingly.

There's Gotta Be Something Else. What's The Game About?

Well Pimple, your good friend, was kidnapped along with the obligatory princess Angelica, by the best villian in the history of Nintendo, the Dark Queen. Zitz and Rash, brother battletoads, feel like rescuing them.

Sounds Like Double Dragon With An Extra Brother.

How dare you compare the play control of those two games!

But I Didn't.

Right. Other than the storyline, nearly everything else about this game was unique to platformers at the time. Besides implementing various toad necessities (like flies to gain back energy), there are things nobody had seen before. Enemies sort of go into suspended animation while you attack them, which, while completely unnecessary, looks cool. You can use certain flying enemies as weapons if you can catch them. You fight one boss from a reversed first-person perspective. Three stages involve taking rides on various vehicles, avoiding obstacles as you're speed is forced (think Level 19 in Tetris). There's even one stage with no enemies whatsoever, and it may be the hardest in the game.

And to top it off, the game is just damn funny.

Still Doesn't Sound Like Enough Considering Your Hate For Difficult Platformers

Did I mention the graphics and sound? They're crisp and keep the player focused.

How Is The Game In 2-Player Mode?

Even better! Even harder! You have to be real close friends with someone to make it through this adventure. If one of you dies, both of you die!

How Many Levels Did You Pass Before You Started Cheating?

Cheat?  I would never do such a thing. I simply used save states to create a stress-free environment. And I didn't need to do that until level 2. I have heard there are people who have won this game straight up, but that they had callusses and no girlfriends.

Who Would You Recommend This To?

Anyone who likes a fair and innovative challenge. For those of you who are impatient and like to take the easy road, grab yourself an emulator! This game is too amazing to pass up.

Sidebar: Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for the Super Nintendo is another option if you want a game that is just as fun but a little more tolerable in terms of difficulty.
