What Kind Of Game Is This?
Another shooter that people like me suck at.
Isn't This Just Another Life Force Rip-off?
Wasn't Life Force a Gradius rip-off? Yeah, the plot is the same, but does anyone care about the backstory for a shooter? And yes, you get power-ups, but show me a shooter that doesn't.
So What Makes This Different?
The sweetest power-up in shooter history (or at least of the six games I've played). Drum roll please....
HOMING MISSLES!
Seriously, the freedom to not aim makes this game less difficult than it could have been. If you acquire this weapon you can usually focus on avoiding flying eyeballs and recklessly hit the fire button.
There's Gotta Be Some Things That Tick You Off...
Of course! Mainly, this game is hard, and I'm not just saying that because I suck at shooters. If you die, you don't continue from whence you left off, but way back in the stage, usually to the beginning. I did manage to beat the first level the first night I played the game, and I could probably make it through level four after playing for a week or two. But the last two levels are way beyond my capabilities. But...
But?
They're not beyond my power to use save states! I would have enjoyed this game with a 30-man life code, but using save states more or less mimicked that feature. There is a secret code which makes your ship invincible, but that's no fun.
I Am Death Incarnate. I Want Really Hard Bosses. Does My Wish Come True?
Fortunately for me, no. Like Medusa in Kid Icarus, the first five bosses require nothing more than finding the correct spot to sit to avoid all firepower. In fact, even without cheating, I defeated the first five without losing a life. The sixth and final boss may take a few lives to determine the strategy necessary, but is very easy as well once you learn it. The hardest part is the ending, which involves no bosses at all...
Ooo...Tell Me, Tell Me!
Right. I labored on this game for forty-five minutes! I will not just give it away.
So Who Would You Recommend This To?
Anyone who enjoyed Gradius or Life Force and either wants a bitch of a challenge or is using an emulator.
